The air was crisp and cool and the lighting was perfect on an early fall morning to catch these two American River Otters playing, catching fish, resting and sunning themselves on a big boulder in the middle of the river.

The headwaters of the Green River are located just north of Pinedale, WY on a Forest Service road about 20 miles off the pavement. This is one of our favorite boon docking locations where we usually spend a week camped right beside the river. The scenery is beautiful, the wildlife abundant and the crowds nonexistent.

We were eating breakfast in our RV when my wife pointed to the river saying "it looks like someone tossed a couple of balls in the river." I looked up from my coffee and immediately realized what she saw was were not balls but a couple of otters working the river. I grabbed the camera and tripod and set up at the river's edge to see what would happen next. The otters were more than willing to stick around for over an hour, alternately sunning and resting on a big rock, then taking a dip in the river, returning with a couple fish for their meal.

I didn't mind that my breakfast got cold. Getting these photos was the perfect way to start the day.
