Located near Lander, WY South Pass City (and nearby Atlantic City) were 1870's era gold rush towns. At its peak, South Pass City had 500 residents. The population quickly dwindled as the gold strike ran out. Years later, other mining techniques and discovery of an iron ore deposit breathed some life back into the town. Portions of the town have been preserved in much the same condition as the late 1800's.
